Toby - My name is David Tobías when i was little my dad use to call me Toby. Also i had a lovely dog, a rough Collie who was named Toby. That's why i love to be known as Toby. Im Toby Farran de Mora .
Bear Plus Magazine - Even though your partner is not alive, you keep in your memories the happy moments you were with him, don't you think you'll find someone to continue being happy with?
Toby - Recently i had the very sad loss of Juanito my partner for 13 years. He sadly passed of natural unexpected causes. A very loving generous beautiful and talented man who also created a very lovely community in Instagram, where he was very loved by his followers. i feel bleesed he was my significant other and we really knew what love was. I want to thank all the love i received in the last two months from all our friends all over the world. Even some of them were just virtual friends.
It's a very hard journey but with therapy and all the love received i hope i can be happy again, as he would want me to be. Im open to love always.
Bear Plus Magazine - How was your youth?
Toby - My youth was very nice in Madrid and Ireland. Ive had my family support when i came out as gay at the age of 14. I was a very quiet creative teenager always doing very cool stuff in art. So no drama in my life.
Bear Plus Magazine - Tell us about your trajectory in LGBTQIA + activism, when did it start?
Toby - I was part of the begging of Chueca gay area in Madrid when i was 18 years old. Writing for the new gay magazines here (Rainbow, Shangay Express an Zero). I was also part of the gay nightlife and clubbing in Madrid in the early 2000s as a club kid. Also i wote song fir important gay icons in Spain like the drag La Prohibida or the queer singer from the 80s Paco Clavel. With queer art i was able to be a gay activist. Bear Plus Magazine - Do you like to model, have you done something different in a photo shoot that you might think "I was too bold"
Toby - Well i don't consider myself a model at all. But i like to take photos to show all kinds of body types are valid as part of the body positivity movement. I never did anything "too bold" as i have a very open-minded concept of things as long is no offensive, gross or degrading.
Bear Plus Magazine - What is your biggest wish that you haven't fulfilled yet?
Toby - I dont have a lot of expectations in life but i always think the best is yet to come. ive achieved many of my dreams such as living in New York, Brussels, Istanbul and have my own Art Gallery www.instagram.com/tobygallery But one of my goals now is to open my own queer fetish military cuts barbershop
Bear Plus Magazine - What do you think Spanish society thinks today about the acquired rights of gays up until now?
Toby - Spanish society is pretty open minded with gay rights. But it wasn't easy to get there. Many older people had to fight very hsrd to get those right. Unfortunately we still have to fight not to go back as conservative close minded intolerant people are still there. Also some religious and politicians all over the world are very dangerous and keep on trying destroy the human rights. We need to stand up and fight them.
Bear Plus Magazine - You have an Instagram profile that talks a little about the lifestyle @farrandemora, could you talk about the content?
Toby - Yes as i am a lifetstyle journalist and PR in that field working with my clients. In that profile you will see a lot of tips about gastronomy, fashion, art, travels, pop culture... that i enjoyed over the years . Not trying to show that im cool or privileged... on the contrary my intention is to teach and give information about the life style i like.
Bear Plus Magazine - Do you like being part of the leather universe, in Spain the bear community is very united with the leathers?
Toby - Leather is one of my fetish but i dont live it as a drag form (which it is). I love to wear leather as part of the masculine paraphernalia i adore. Some bears use it as a disguise or just because they think wesring a leather harness they are going yo get laid... that's a turn off to me. Masculinity comes naturally you don't need to force it by a disguise. Being that said in the leather community it doesn't matter if you are a bear, a twink or just the guy next door. Leather world is open to everyone as long as they feel it.
Bear Plus Magazine - About your work as a barber, when did your interest in this sector begin and we know that you participate in events to shave and hair the public, right?
Toby - I have a barbershop fetish since i was a teenager so as is a major turn on ive always been interested and i learnt to be barber watching YouTube tutorials.
